Chandpur: A court here on Thursday sentenced two people to death for killing a woman in East Upalata village of Shahrasti upazila in 2016.

District and Sessions Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmed pronounced the verdict in presence of the accused on the dock, Public Prosecutor (PP) Aman Ullah told UNB.

The convicts are Jannatul Ferdous Maya, 40, wife of retired cop Humayun Kabir and Jahirul Islam, 45, son of Tajul Islam, hailing fromEast Upalat village in the upazila.

According to the case statement, Maya had and illicit affair with Jahirul.

As Maya’s niece Ruma Akter, 22 came to know the matter Maya in association with Jahirul strangled Ruma on the night of March 24, 2016 at their residence.

On the next day, Rumna’s father Ana Mia filed a murder case with Shahrasti Police Station. Later police arrested the duo.

Later on August 25, Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan, investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet.
