Rangpur: A court here on Sunday sentenced an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police and his wife to life imprisonment for killing a domestic housemaid after rape in 2003.

The convicts are ASI Altab Hossain and his wife Saleha Begum.

Woman and Children Repression Prevention Court Judge Jabid Hossain passed the order in presence of the convicts.

According to the case statement, victim Monjila Khatoon, 14, daughter of Majibar Rahman of Taluk Roghu Tamphat village in the town, was strangulated by the ASI after rape on May 24, 2003.

Later, Altab with the help of his wife dumped the body in a paddy field.

On the following day, victim's mother Rabeya Khatoon filed a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing the couple.
