Jhenidah: A young man and his sister-in-law have reportedly committed suicide by hanging themselves with a single rope at Purbatetulia village in Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah.

The deceased are Belal Hossain, in his thirties, son of Mantu Miah, and his sister-in-law Koly Khatun, around 15 years, daughter of Shakhawat Mollah of the village.

Police recovered their bodies on Wednesday morning and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Quoting local people, in-charge of Narkelbaria police camp Waliuzzaman said Belal married Koly’s sister Pinky 5-6 years ago and the couple has a two-year-old son.

However, the youth developed an extramarital relation with Koly. The girl fled with him recently.

The matter went to arbitration two weeks ago when the arbitrators asked Belal to discard Koly and return to his wife.

Apparently failing to accept the decision, the duo hanged them from a tree using a single rope sometime on Tuesday night, said Waliuzzaman.
