FM briefs foreign diplomats ahead of OC’s CFM meeting

Dhaka: Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday briefed foreign diplomats stationed here on the 45th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The briefing, held at the state guesthouse Padma in the city, lasted for half an hour from 4pm.
Senior foreign ministry officials were also present.
The current Rohingya crisis and the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah - the conflicts, division, tension and instability of the Muslim world - will get focus in the 45th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC scheduled to be held in Dhaka in May, officials said.
Heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organisations in Dhaka were present.
The 45th OIC Council of foreign ministers will be held in Dhaka on May 5-6.
The theme of the CFM is ‘Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development’.
The Foreign Minister apprised them the issues like Palestine, challenges facing by the Muslim Ummah such as the conflicts, division, tension and instability of the Muslim world to be discussed at the Dhaka CFM.
The problems of terrorism and violent extremism, sectarian tendencies, hatred, prejudice and Islam phobia, massive humanitarian crises with forced displacements from and to Muslim countries—seriously affecting rights and dignity of the Muslim minorities such as the Rakhine Muslims of Myanmar will also be discussed.
The issues of persistent poverty, socioeconomic backwardness of Muslim societies and protection of their rights and fundamental freedoms will also get priority, said the Foreign Ministry after the diplomatic briefing.
A visit to the makeshift camps in Cox’s Bazar sheltering Rohingyas from Myanmar will be organised for the Heads of Delegations and International Organisations of interested.
