‘Robber’ killed in city ‘gunfight’

Dhaka: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Joy Kali Temple in Dhaka’s Wari area early on Friday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Being tipped off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery, a team of police went to the spot around 3:00am, said Abdul Khalek, sub-inspector of Wari Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fireon police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
After half-an hour of gunfight, police arrested a criminal who sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight and took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Two policemen-Nurul Islam, an assistant sub-inspector and constable Jewel- were injured in the gunfight.
