Rangamati: In the space of a few hours, two activists belonging to the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), the Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party, and its rival group JSS MN Larma, were found murdered in Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday.

The deceased are UPDF's Jony Tonchongya of Rajasthali upazila and JSS MN Larma group member Sadan Chakma of Tachara village in Naniarchar upazila.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Naniarchar Police Station, said rival group members attacked Jony while he was taking tea at a tea stall in the afternoon and fled the scene immediately, leaving him dead on the spot.

Within several hours, Sadan Chakma was found hacked to death allegedly by rival group members who also fled the scene.

It is unclear whether the two incidents are related.

On information, police recovered the bodies from the respective spots, the OC added.
