4 cases filed over vandalism and clashes at DU

Dhaka: Four cases were filed against unnamed accused following the clash and vandalism in Dhaka University (DU) camps and VC’s house during the demonstration for the reformation of quota system in government jobs.
Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna division said the university authorities filed a case in connection with the attack on the vice-chancellor’s house.
Apart from this, Special Branch (SB) of Police filed three cases accusing unknown with this connection.
DU chief security officer SM Kamrul Ahsan filed the case on charge of unauthorized entry, damage and looting goods from vice chancellor house. The amount esteemed loss is Tk 1 to 1.5 crore.
According to Kamrul’s statement hundreds of unknown people carried out the vandalism and looted goods from vice-chancellor’s house. They attacked aiming to kill the VC, it is alleged.
DU Vice Chancellor Akhtaruzzaman told media, ‘The attackers came to my house wearing masks. They came here for the politics of dead bodies and came for killing. They came aiming to create political unrest in the country. ‘
On the other hand, on behalf of the protesters, it was said that ‘external terrorists’ or infiltrators carried out the attack at VC’s house. They rejected any relation with the attackers and vandalism.
