14 get life term for murder during robbery

Laxmipur: A court here on Wednesday sentenced 14 people to life term imprisonment each for killing a college student in Sadar upazila while committing robbery in a house in 2011.
Among the convicts, five were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, a gang of robbers attacked the house of Kartik Paul at Kajir Dighirpar in Sadar upazila on July 2 in 1011.
Being obstructed, they opened fire on Dipta Paul, son of Kartik and a college student, leaving him dead on the spot and looted valuables, gold and cash.
Dipta’s uncle Sanjay Paul also received bullet injuries.
Later, victim’s father filed a murder and robbery case accusing 15 people on July 3 with Sadar Police Station.
Police submitted a chargesheet in April 2013 against 14 people.
After examining all the records and 22 witnesses, Laxmipur additional district and sessions judge Nazmul Huda Talukder handed down the verdict.
