New mother dies at Rajshahi clinic for ‘medical negligence’

Rajshahi: Tension mounted following the death of a new mother who lost her life at a private hospital in Rajshahi due to ‘negligence of physicians’ on Thursday.
The deceased is Sultana Begum, in her thirties, wife of Zhurul Islam of Kashiadanga in Rajshahi.
Zahurul Islam said his wife was admitted to Laxmipur General Hospital in the city with labour pain on April 17 where she gave birth to a baby boy through caesarian section under Gynecologist Dr Monwara Begum of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the following day.
Since giving birth to the baby, Sultana’s condition had been deteriorating, he said.
Later on Thursday morning, Sultana died at the hospital.
Zahurul claimed that due to negligence of the doctors, Sultana died.
Contacted, Dr Monwara Begum said the patient died due to excess bleeding.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the patient staged demonstration in front of the hospital blaming the hospital authorities for negligence of duty.
On information, police rushed there and brought the situation under control.
