Mymensingh: A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Saharpur in Phulpur early Saturday.

SA Newazi, additional superintendent of police (Crime), said a DB team arrested suspected robber Shaon from Jashore in connection with killing of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Zahirul Haque and snatching his auto-rickshaw on March 24 last.

After he made confessional statement at court, the DB team conducted a drive along with Shaon early in the morning to arrest other robbers.

Sensing the presence of police, Shaon’s associate reportedly opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left an unidentified robber dead on the spot, claimed Newazi.

Later, the body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
