Although two years have passed since the 17-year-old Tanvir Mohammad Twaki was killed, law enforcers are yet to file any charge sheet, let alone commencing trial or ensuring justice.

Friday being the second anniversary of the killing, the family of the A-level Narayanganj student is going through utter frustration and not sure of getting justice.

‘Two years has already passed, but they are not even filing the charge sheet while the main accused is still at large,’ said Rafiur Rabbi, father of Twaki who went missing on 6 March 2013, and two days later police recovered his body from the bank of the River Shitalkhya.

Disappointed by the slow pace in the investigation of the murder case that Rafiur Rabbi filed with the Narayanganj police on 8 March, he appealed to the High Court for handing the case over to the Rapid Action Battalion that took over the case on 20 June 2013, but could not do better than police.

‘We moved to High Court to change the investigating agency since there was a very slow progress. But the case is now being investigated by RAB. What can we do now?’ said Rabbi who is also the convener at Santras Nirmul Twaki Mancha, a popular platform formed to combat criminal activities.

Twaki’s father voiced concern regarding submission of charge sheet saying that the case involves a member from pro-Awami League Osman family.

Pressed about when the charge sheet of the case might be submitted, RAB-11 commanding officer Anwar Latif Khan declined to give any timeframe for submission of the charge sheet.

‘The investigation is going on. We have got some information, but that cannot be disclosed for the sake of investigation,’ he said.

Echoing the same, RAB media wing director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan said that they will file the charge sheet after completion of the investigation.

After 10 days of filing of the case, Twaki’s submitted a list of suspected persons to the Narayanganj police superintendent accusing them of the murder of his son. The list included names of Awami League leader Shamim Osman and his son Ayon Osman.

‘The investigation of the case became politically motivated instead of identifying the main culprits behind the killing. Therefore, the future of the case is now uncertain,’ said Rafiur Rabbi.

Among the accused, Liton is in custody in a narcotics case. Kalam Sikder was caught by law enforcers and later killed in RAB crossfire.

The key accused Ajmeri Osman is now in Kolkata, according to sources. His close associate Sultan Shaukat Bhromor, who gave confessional statement earlier, is now reportedly in Dubai.

The remaining seven have reportedly crossed the border.

Three-day programme

Citizen platforms will observe the anniversary with three-day programme reiterating the demand for immediate filing of charge sheet against the killers.

Citizen platform Shantrash Nirmul Twaki Mancha arranged a prayer session at his grave on Friday morning. They will observe a gathering at the rail gate 2 in Narayanganj where eminent personalities including Kamal Lohani, Mamunur Rashid, Anu Mohammad, MM Akash are expected to join in. On Saturday, a book launching ceremony will be held on the Liberation War Museum premises.
