Gazipur: A Gazipur court sentenced 13 people to death in a case filed over the killing of a man, named Billal Hossain Bilu, at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur.

Gazipur’s additional district and sessions judge-1 court Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan delivered the verdict at about 12:15pm on Monday.

Additional public prosecutor Moqbul Hossain Kajal said Billal Hossain, in his forties, was being killed at the village of Ishwarpur in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur in 1995.

Bilal’s wife filed a murder case with Kaliganj police. Later, police submitted charge sheet against 13 people after concluding long investigation. After a long trial, the judge handed down death penalty to 13 people and fined Tk10,000 each.

Seven convicts of the case were present during the verdict, while six others are absconding.
