Bagerhat: The dream a young woman cherished for the last nine years to become a mother has got shattered within minutes as the fetus she developed after so long years got damaged in a cruel attack.

Nawshin Purobi Dalia, 24, wife of Riaz Morshed in Hariakhali area of the district town, miscarried at Sadar Hospital on Monday when she was only two months’ pregnant.

The victim said their neighbour Dulal Aikon along with his associates used to take drugs in front of their house and tease her. She had an altercation with him on Friday as she protested his misdeed.

Dulal, his family members and cohorts intercepted Dalia and her husband Riaz in front their house on Saturday afternoon while the couple was returning home.

The attackers beat the couple. They also kicked Dalia in the abdomen, leaving her injured. Later, Dalia was taken to Sadar Hospital.

Dr Abu Daud Khan of the hospital said the embryo got damaged due to profuse bleeding.

Meanwhile, a case was filed with Sadar Police Station against eight people on Monday.
