2 sentenced to death for killing schoolgirl in Gazipur

Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Tuesday sentenced two men to death and another woman to five years in jail for killing a schoolgirl in 2014.

District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque sentenced Sumon Sheikh, 22, son of Akkas Sheikh of Sirajganj district, and Abdul Alim, 45, son of Golam Martuza, aso from Sirajganj district to death.

A third man, Sumon, was tried in absentia.

The court also sentenced Shefali Begum, 32, wife Alim to five years in jail for her involvement in the murder.

According to prosecution, Maria, a class IV student of a local school was strangulated to death by Alim, a security guard of the house and Sumon over previous enmity while returning home from a coaching centre at Parijat Housing in Konabari area of the district on July 14, 2014.

Aktaruzzaman, father of the victim, filed a case with Joydebpur Police Station.

Later police arrested Alim and his wife Shefali in connection with the murder incident.
