5 shot dead at upazila chairman's funeral in Rangamati

Rangamati: Five people were gunned down and eight others received bullet in an attack by some miscreants at Betchari in Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati on Friday.

They came under the gun attack while returning from the funeral programme of slain Naniarchar upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma.

Two of the deceased were identified as Md Sajib and Setu Lal Chakma.

Md Alamgir Kabir, superintendent of Rangamati police, said a group of unknown miscreants attacked them around 11:00am while they were returning from the funeral programme at Kukur Mara and opened fire on them, leaving four dead on the spot and nine injured with bullets.

Among the injured, one died later.

Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), and chairman of Naniarchar upazila was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in front of the upazila parishad complex on Thursday.
