Khulna: Young political leaders of Khulna city affiliated with Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at a multiparty peace rally here on Monday pledged to promote peaceful elections in the upcoming Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls.

Democracy International (DI) supported the young leaders to organize the peace rally that started and ended at Shahid Hadis Park and moved through significant landmarks in Khulna.

Organized as part of the Shantite Bijoy (Win With Peace) campaign, over 200 young political leaders participated in the rally along with over 100 civil society representatives.

The young political leaders are all actively supporting the campaigns of their party’s nominated candidates ahead of the elections said the Democracy International.

Prominent Khulna civic and political leaders including Prof Jafor Imam, Jayanta Rani Sardar, Member, Khulna District Awami League and Member, Khulna District Council; Mehedi Hasan Dipu, Cultural Affairs Secretary, Khulna City BNP, inaugurated the rally.

The Shantite Bijoy campaign supports political party activists and politically active citizens to advocate for inclusive and peaceful politics and elections in Bangladesh.

This programme was organized under the Strengthening Political Landscape (SPL) project jointly funded by USAID and UKAID and implemented by DI.
