Rajshahi: A tribunal in Rajshahi is scheduled to deliver its verdict today (Tuesday) on the murder of Rajshahi University teacher Prof Rezaul Karim Siddiquee, more than two years after the gruesome killing.

Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Shirin Kabita Akhtar will deliver the verdict, reports the UNB.

On April 11 last, the court set May 8 (today) to deliver the verdict after recording testimonies of a total of 32 witnesses in the case.

On November 6, 2016, police pressed charges against eight members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the case more than six months after the killing.

The accused are Khairul Alam Badal, Osman, Nazrul Islam, Shariful Islam, Ripon, Abdus Sattar, Rahmatullah and Maskawat.

Of them, Badal, Nazrul and Osman were killed in gunfights with police at different times and Shariful has been on the run.

Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area while he was waiting for university bus on April 23, 2011.

The victim’s son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia police station.
