No instruction from PMO yet on quota abolition: Senior Secretary

Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Mozammel Haque Khan on Tuesday said gazette notification on the abolition of the quota system in public service will be issued once they get instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
‘We’re yet to get any instruction over the abolition of the quota system. We’ve to wait for the instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office,’ he said while talking to reporters at the secretariat, reports the UNB.
Replying to a query, the senior secretary said the issue is under final consideration of the government.
Asked whether there is any directive to form a committee over the quota system, he said, ‘We haven’t received any instruction about this. We’re ready to do anything if we’re asked. The committee will be formed if necessary.’
About the government’s assurance of taking steps by May 7 to resolve the quota issue, Mozammel said the students did not withdraw the movement even after the announcement of it by the government delegation.
He, however, said they will implement whatever directives come from the government.
