7 killed as nor’wester lashes Nilphamari

Nilphamari: Seven people were killed as nor’wester lashed Jaldhaka and Domar upazilas of Nilphamari on Thursday night.

Ibrahim Khalil, officer-in-charge of Domar Police Station, said Abdul Gani, 40 of Golnati Chourangibazar, was killed when a portion of a mud wall collapsed on him while he was in his cattle shed during the storm at night.

Besides, Jamirul Islam, 12, son of Abdur Rahman of Bogdapuri village in the upazila, was killed as a tree fell on him during the storm.

Two others- Fatema Begum, in her fifties, and Abdar Rahman, around 50 years old, were killed in wall collapse in separate places in the night.

In Jaldhaka upazila, Abdur Rahim, of Mirganj union and Shawkat Ali, were killed in wall collapse during the storm in the night, said Mirganj Union Council Chairman.

In another incident, Alam, son of Tafizuddin of Dharmapal union, was killed when a tree collapsed on him when nor’wester hit the area.

Besides, a number of houses were damaged and tress uprooted in the two upazilas of the district during the storm.
