10 municipalities to have polls on 20 March
Dhaka: Voting in 10 municipalities across the country will open on 20 March as the Election Commission (EC) issued the elections scheduled on Wednesday.
Signed by EC secretary Shamsul Alam, the schedule was issued to hold polls to the following municipalities: Rangpur’s Haragachh, Noakhali’s Kabirhat, Brahmanbaria Sadar, Jhalokhati Sadar, Comilla’s Nangalkot, Faridpur’s Bhanga, Feni’s Sonagazi, and to the Kaliganj municipality of Jhenaidah.
Two municipalities of Cox’s Bazar, Chakaria and Maheshkhali, too will have polls on the same day.
Aspiring candidates in these municipalities will have to submit their nomination papers within 22 February. The commission will scrutinise the nomination papers on 24 and 25 February, while the deadline of withdrawing nominations is 4 March, according to the polls schedule.
Earlier the EC held elections in 234 municipalities across the country on 30 December.
