Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday said that the country attained great improvement in education sector.

It has been possible to ensure nearly 100 per cent enrollments in schools reducing gender discrimination at primary and secondary levels, said the minister while addressing the launching of a publication - ‘Global Education Monitoring Report-2017/8’ at the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS) conference room in the city.

UNESCO Dhaka office and Bangladesh UNESCO National Commission (BNCU) jointly organized the event, reports the UNB.

Now more girls are in the educational institutions up to the secondary level. Bangladesh is working to achieve the United Nations’ SDG target for improving the quality of education by 2030, said Nahid.

The minister said, ‘We will learn from this report and try to remove the mistakes that are there. We have to take the good aspects and move forward. We also have some global commitments to be consistent with the SDG.’

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Sohrab Hossain presided over the programme while Additional Secretary of the Department of Technical and Madrasah Md Alamgir, Additional Secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry Ghulam Mohammad Hasibul Alam, UNESCO Dhaka office chief Beatrice Khaldun and BNCU Secretary Md Manzoor Hossain were present on the occasion.
