Accused thief killed in Fatullah ‘gunfight’
Narayanganj: A young man who was accused in a trifling theft case, was killed and five policemen were injured in a gunfight at Alaminnagar area under Fatullah Model Police Station on Wednesday.
The deceased is Parvej, 28, son of Subhan Mia of Dapa area under the same police station.
Being tipped-off that two groups of snatchers were engaged in a gunfight in the area around 2.15am, police rushed to the spot, said Shah Md Manjur Quader, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Sensing the presence of police members there, they started firing on the cops. Later, police also opened fire to disperse them.
Parvej was shot to death while four sub-inspectors-- Kazi Enamul Haque, Shafiul Alam, Kamrul Hasan, Tareque Hasan-and a constable Manir were severely injured.
The body of the deceased was sent to Narayanganj 100-bed Hospital's morgue for autopsy, said the OC.
Parvej was accused in a case allegedly for stealing a rifle from a constable on duty at Indrakpur area on May 13. A case was filed in that connection accusing four people while Parvej was the prime one.
The rifle was later recovered from an abandoned ditch in Dapa area.
