Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged journalists to properly publish the good activities of her government in the interest of the country, neither for her own gains nor her party’s.

‘We don’t want mercy and favour from anyone. But we at least can demand that if we do any good work for the country, it should be published in a good manner, not in my interest nor my party, but in the interest of the country,’ she said, reports the UNB.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the council of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at the Jatiya Press Club.

She said all should work together to brighten the image of the country and inform people properly about their facilities. ‘How can we take the country forward if there is no inspiration before people?’

‘Many people think the media can’t run without saying against the government, this is a mental disease,’ Hasina said.

She urged the journalists to properly bring in the limelight the activities taken by her government for the development and welfare of people. ‘This should be done as we don’t want to remain dependent on others; we want to live with dignity raising our heads high as we’re a victorious nation.’

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the biennial council of the BFUJ.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and State Minister for Information Tarana Halim also spoke on the occasion.

Chaired by BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, the event was moderated by its secretary general Omor Faruk Chowhdury.
