Satkhira: A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to five years’ jail for trying to rape a 10-year minor girl at Boalia village in Kolaroa upazila in 2010.

The convict is Alamgir Hossain alias Alim, son of Hayez Uddin of the village. He was tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Alim used to harass the girl. On April 20, 2010, when the girl came out of her house to response to the call of nature, Alim tried to violate her.

Later, the victim’s father filed a case against Alim with Kolaroa Police Station.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Hosne Ara, judge of Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, handed down the verdict.
