‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’
Mymensingh: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Gonsharmore area of Charpara in Mymensingh in the early hours of Sunday, claimed police.
The deceased is Biplob. Police said, he was one of top criminal of the city and a drug puddler. Biplob was wanted in around 12 cases. The law enforcers also recovered 200gram Heroin, 200 pieces Yaba, three used bullets and two knives from the body of Biplob.
Mymensigh district Detective Branch (DB) police officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman said police constables, Rashedul and Kawsar, were injured during the gunfight. The police members were admitted to Mymensigh Police Lines Hospital.
The OC said being tipped off that Biplob and his associates are planning to distribute their drug consignment across the city, a team of Detectives conducted raid at Charpara area at about 2:15am. Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire to them, police also fired back, which triggered a gunfight. At one stage, Biplob received a bullet and other drug dealers managed to flee from the spot.
Later, police recovered Biplob and took him to Mymensigh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
