Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why Tk one crore compensation would not be given to the family of Nazim Uddin who was killed in a city road crash on May 17.
Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, chairman and managing director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), inspector general of police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, owners of Srabon Paribahan and Monzil Paribahan and concerned others have been asked to reply the rule.
A HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the suo moto order taking cognisance of newspaper reports published on the accident.
On May 17, Nazim Uddin, senior executive of advertising department of Dhaka Tribune, was killed as a bus hit his motorcycle while it was trying to overtake another bus and ran over him, on the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
Earlier on May 8, the HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque issued an order to provide Tk 1 crore as compensation to the family of Rajib Hasan who lost his right hand after it got stuck between two buses at Bangla Motor in the city on April 3.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on May 17.
However, Earlier on Tuesday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court stayed a HC order that directed BRTC and Sajan Paribahan to pay Tk 1 crore in compensation to the family of Rajib Hossain.
