Chittagong: A sum of Tk 50 lakh of Sitakunda branch of Pubali Bank Ltd allegedly went missing on Thursday noon while being shifted to Agrabad Zonal branch.

Eftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station, said officials of the bank verbally informed him that a total of Tk 81 lakh was sent to the Sitakunda branch from the zonal branch in the morning.

An amount of Tk 50 lakh went missing while the money was being transferred again to the Agrabad zonal branch in the afternoon in a microbus, he quoted the bank officials as saying.

The microbus was found in an abandoned condition by the road, they said.

The OC, however, said the officials could not give any satisfactory reply as to why the money was being sent to the zonal branch again.

Police detained five officials of the bank for interrogation in this regard.
