No room for drug traders: Home Minister

Dhaka: Issuing a note of warning, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday said there will be no place for drug dealers in the city.
‘Actions will be taken against them following the list made based on intelligence information,’ he said while inaugurating an anti-drug campaign of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Farmgate area.
The DMP launched the campaign with the slogan ‘Avoid Drugs, Save Yourself and Save the Next Generation’.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia was present as a special guest.
The minister said the anti-narcotics drive that began across the country after Prime Minister’s announcement of a ‘zero tolerance’ stance against drugs will continue to build a drug-free Bangladesh.
He also underscored the need for every family to take care of its members to save them from the aggression of drugs, urging people to stand against the menace.
Hailing the security measures taken by the DMP for ensuing safety of the city dwellers during the fasting month of Ramadan, Asaduzzaman said the DMP commissioner has brought the city under a foolproof security blanket with his competence. ‘The city dwellers have started to get its benefit,’ he said.
About DMP’s stance against illegal drugs, he said it has been conducting anti-drug special drives regularly.
During the drives, police arrested many drug peddlers along with huge drug items, he said, hoping that menace will be rooted out with the help of people like militancy.
Asaduzzaman Mia said the DMP has been providing infallible security during this Ramadan and for it, city dwellers have been shopping till midnight without any fear.
He called upon all to come forward against illegal drugs.
