Narayanganj: A tribunal here on Monday convicted three people of killing a garment worker after rape in 2008 and sentenced them to death.

The condemned convicts are Nasir Uddin Bitol, 40, son of Nur Uddin, Safun, 34, son of Aku Miah, and Khokon Miah, 32, son of Abdus Salam, reports the UNB.

According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up a garment worker from Kushiara Bhadrashon area in Bandar upazila on her way back home and took her to an unknown place on March 12, 2008. Later, they violated the girl in turns and killed her.

On June 11, 2008, Khokon made a confessional statement before a court.

After examining the records and witnesses, Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Jewel Rana handed down the verdict acquitting four others as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
