Verdict on five Patuakhali ‘razakars’ any day

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will deliver its verdict any day in a case filed against five men from Patuakhali for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

A three-member bench of tribunal headed by Justice Anwarul Haq kept the verdict pending after concluding the law point arguments from both sides on Wednesday, reports the UNB.

The accused are: Ishak Shikdar, Solaiman Mridha, Abdus Sattar Peda, Abdul Goni Hawladar and Awal alias Moulvi Abdul Awal. All of them are hailing from different villages in Sadar upazila.

Earlier on November 19, the tribunal took cognisance of charges against them for their alleged involvement in the crimes against humanity in Patuakhali district during the Liberation War in 1971.

On September 6, 2015, police arrested five war crimes accused from different parts of sadar upazila in Patuakhali district on charge of looting, killing, torturing and arson attack during the Liberation War.

On Mar 8, 2017, charges were framed against them for violating 15 biranganas, torturing 17 women and vandalising 15 houses.
