Giasuddin Quader Chy gets HC bail
Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday granted bail for three months to BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, also younger brother of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, in two separate cases.
A HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order following a petition filed by his lawyer Barrister Ruhul Kuddus in the two cases-one for threatening Prime Minister and the other filed under Explosive Act.
Barrister Ruhul Kuddus said that the HC granted three months bail to Giasuddin Quader and after the expiry of the bail period he will have to surrender before the lower court.
Earlier on Thursday, a Chittagong Judicial Magistrate Court issued an arrest warrant against the BNP leader in a defamation case filed for making offensive remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Nazim Uddin Mohuri, general secretary of Fatikchhari upazila Awami League, filed the case.
Three more defamation cases have been filed against him.
Besides, the court summoned Giasuddin in another case filed by Akram Hossain, a member of AL central sub-committee.
Md Jamal Uddin, Chhatra League president of Fatikchhari upazila unit, filed a defamation case against 70 activists and leaders of BNP, including Giasuddin Quader, for making disparaging remarks against the PM on Wednesday evening.
While addressing a discussion programme on the 37th death anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman, Giasuddin said, “There was no one to say Inna Lillahi Wa Innailayhi Raji’un after the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzubur Rahman. The Prime Minister’s fate will be even more dangerous. She has to take the responsibility of those being killed in the name of crossfire.”
He also described the Prime Minister as a threat to the country.
Later, a case was filed under Explosive Act with Fatikchhari Police Station on May 30 accusing Giasuddin.
