Cabinet sends back draft of tariff commission act for scrutiny
Dhaka: The Cabinet has formed a six-member committee to review the draft of the Bangladesh Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2018 further.
The committee was constituted at the regular weekly cabinet meeting with Principal Secretary to Prime Minister’s Office as its convener on Monday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
‘The draft law was placed before the cabinet today but the meeting sent it back for its further review,’ said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam at a briefing after the meeting, reports the UNB.
He said the Principal Secretary will act as the convener of the committee, while the Tariff Commission Chairman as its Member Secretary.
The four other members of the committee are Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Commerce and Industries, and NBR Chairman, Shafiul Alam added.
Meanwhile, the cabinet was apprised of the visit of the Foreign Minister to Japan on May 13-15 last.
During the visit, Shafiul Alam said, the Emperor of Japan was invited to attend the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s independence to be held on March 26, 2021 in Dhaka.
In response, the authorities of Japan assured the Foreign Minister of actively considering the invitation.
Besides, the Japanese authorities assured the minister of providing all the necessary support to solve the Rohingya crisis.
During his visit, the issue on introduction of Dhaka-Tokyo direct air flight was also discussed, Shafiul Alam said adding that a decision was taken to further discuss it at the next foreign office consultation (FOC) meeting.
The meeting was also informed about the participation of Bangladesh Delegation led by the Finance Minister in the 51st Board of Governors’ Meeting of the Asian Development Bank on May 03-06 last in Manila, Philippines.
