Feni: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said army will be deployed in the next general election as per the constitution.

‘The Election Commission will request the government to deploy army if there’s any obstacle to holding the election in a free, fair and credible manner,’ he said while talking to reporters during a visit to Fatehpur railway overpass on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway here, reports the UNB.

Talking about the condition of highways, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said, ‘The journey of homebound people is comfortable this year than previous years as the government has taken coordinated and planned steps. There’s no suffering on highways this time.’

He said all the departments concerned took good preparations to ensure smooth journey of the passengers on road, rail and river routes.

The minister also expressed the hope that people will return to their workplaces safely.

Col SM Zakaria Hossain, Engineer Construction Brigade of 34 Army, Project Manager of Fatehpur railway overpass Lt Col Romeo Naurin Khan, Deputy Commissioner Monoj Kumar Roy and Police Super Jahangir Alam Sarkar were, among others, present.
