Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday claimed the journey of homebound people was comfortable as the government has taken coordinated and planned steps ahead of the Eid.

Obaidul, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League, came up with the remarks while exchanging greetings with the reporters at his Secretariat office on the first working day after Eid vacation, reports the UNB.

‘The number of road crashes and loss of lives is less than the previous years,’ he said.

The minister also claimed that people reached from Dhaka to Chattogram ahead of Eid within four hours.

Replying to a question about BNP men’s visit to Khaleda Zia in jail, the minister said, ‘Do BNP men need to visit Khaleda Zia every day? Her relatives were allowed to visit her whenever wanted. But her party members are not allowed to meet her often.’

Talking about Khaleda’s treatment, Obaidul said, ‘The government has taken initiative for the treatment of Khaleda Zia in Combined Military Hospital where most advanced treatment is provided.’

When asked about why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was treated at the Square Hospitals when she was behind bars during the tenure of the caretaker government, the AL leader said, ‘Our prime minister was treated there as she was not allowed for treatment at CMH.’

He also said that BNP wanted to create an issue for waging a movement centring their leader’s treatment.
