‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops
Brahmanbaria: An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Baddapara village under Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria on early Sunday, reports UNB.
Sarail police officer-in-charge Ali Arshad said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive there at about 4:10am.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers and hurled brickbats, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Ratan Miah, around 30, a resident of Chunta village of the upazila, was caught in the line of fire and injured.
Later, police arrested Ratan while his other associates managed to flee the scene.
Injured Ratan was admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injures later.
Police also recovered a pipe-gun, three machetes and five bullets from the spot.
Five policemen including the OC were injured during the gunfight.
Of them, two constables–Mehedi Hasan and Manjurul Ahsan–were admitted to the hospital.
