Rajshahi: Two young boys were tortured by a group of young men over a theft at Chowbari village under Poba upazila in Rajshahi, reports UNB.

The torturers also filmed the incident and uploaded it on the internet.

One of the victims, Zahid Hasan, a class VIII student of Bagsara High School and son of Imran Ali of Bagsara area, was admitted to Poba Upazila Health Complex.

The victim’s father, Imran, alleged that after taking his launch on Friday, Zahid was going to his maternal grandfather’s house at Bayat in the upazila.

Several young men–Palash, Nasir Uddin, Jamal, Razzak, Tuhin, Anik and Azizul of the village picked up Jahid from in front of Rajshahi Airport.

Later they took Zahid to a house of one Fazlul Bari and tied him up with rope.

They continued torturing Zahid from 3:00pm to 10:00pm and also tried to take confession from him that he had stolen a mobile phone set.

As Zahid did not confess, they handed him over to his father at about 10:30am.

Later Imran got his injured son admitted to the local health complex.

The torturers also took a signature of Imran in a white paper while handing over injured Zahid.

Imran said a mobile phone of Rakib, son of Fazlul Bari, got stolen on Friday morning.

Over the issue, they also tortured another 12-13 year-old boy Imran, son of late Masud Ali of the area.

Shariful Islam, officer in-charge of Poba Police Station, said a case was filed against 13 people on Saturday afternoon in this connection.

Police are trying to arrest the torturers, added the OC.

Zahid’s father also alleged that the torturers who were locally influential were threatening him as he complained to police.

Police also arrested Azizul, 45, a resident of the village, in connection with the case.

Earlier, similar type of brutal torture on two boys-- Rajon and Rakib--claimed their lives in Sylhet and Khulna last year and their killers ended up in receiving death sentences.

On 8 July, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila, was beaten to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of Sylhet.

On 3 August, Rakib, who used to work at a motorcycle garage at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna city, was killed as his former employer inflicted severe torture on him over quitting job.

On 8 November, six people were sentenced to death in the two sensational cases filed over the killings of the teenage boy Samiul Alam Rajon in Sylhet and 12-year-old boy Rakib in Khulna through inhuman torture.
