Tangail: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed on Saturday said the schedules of the eleventh national parliamentary election to be announced in late October.

The EC official made the comment in response to a journalist’s query after attending a meeting arranged over the law and order measures for Basail municipality election at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium in the noon.

‘Basail Municipality is a small municipality, but the Election Commission puts emphasis on every election,’ he said.

All the preparation for holding a fair, free, peaceful and acceptable election has been initiated, he further said.

‘I hope the elections of the Basail Municipality will be held in a festive manner on 30^th June,’ he added.

The meeting was chaired by Tangail Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Nurul Amin.

Three candidates for mayor post, 37 for general councilor posts and 14 for reserved women councilors are contesting in the election where there are 8,047 female voters and 7,925 male voters.

The first election was held in the municipality in 2013.
