Outgoing Army chief pays farewell call on President

Dhaka: Outgoing Army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq paid a farewell call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Sunday.

During the meeting, the Army chief expressed gratitude to the President for extending necessary guidance and cooperation in discharging his duties, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said, reports the UNB.

The Army chief apprised the President of the development activities of the Bangladesh Army in various sectors.

President Abdul Hamid thanked the outgoing army chief for discharging his duties properly during this tenure with competence.

‘The army formed by the Liberation War is our pride’, he said.

He also praised of the outgoing army chief for the strategic and organisational development in the army during this time.

President also said that during his tenure the image of Bangladesh Army got brighter.

Government appointed General Aziz Ahmed as the new chief of Bangladesh Army who will take over the charge as Army Chiefon Monday.

The Ministry of Defence issued a notice in this regard on June 18.

The newly appointed army chief has been promoted as a General from the day (June 25) he will be taking over the charge as Army Chief for next three years.

As a major general, Aziz Ahmed previously performed as Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the GOC of 33 Infantry Division stationed at Comilla Cantonment.

General Aziz Ahmed is currently serving as the Quartermaster General of Bangladesh Army.

Secretaries concerned to the President Office were present.
