Dhaka: Newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff Aziz Ahmed was adorned with the rank badge of General on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina witnessed the ceremony that was held at her official residence Ganabhaban.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat adorned the new army chief with the rank badge of General, reports the UNB.

After the function, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the new army chief by presenting him a bouquet.

He said the new army chief also greeted the Prime Minister on behalf of Bangladesh Army by presenting a bouquet.

The Prime Minister said whenever Awami League assumed office, it took various steps for the modernisation and development of the Armed Forces.

“Our government has also changed the names of lower ranks of the Army to make those time-befitting ones alongside developing and modernising the force,” she said.

Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam, Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt General Md Mahfuzur Rahman, PM’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hasan were, among others, present.

Earlier on June 18, the government appointed Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Aziz Ahmed as the new army chief.
