Reinstate visa processing from Bangladesh
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Sunday urged the UK government to take steps so that British visa can be processed from Bangladesh.
The President made the call when a delegation of Labour Friends of Bangladesh (LFB) in the UK, led by Sir Keir Starmer MP, made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
Mentioning that the United Kingdom is the home to the largest number of Bangladesh nationals living abroad, President Hamid expressed the hope that the UK government would review its decision of transferring the visa point to New Delhi, as this has caused difficulties to visa applicants in Bangladesh.
President's press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Abdul Hamid also mentioned that three Bangladeshi-origin British citizens were elected members of parliament in the UK in the last election, saying it proves that the interest about British politics among the Bangladeshi-origin British is increasing.
The delegation described the Bangladeshi-origin British citizens as hard-working, saying they are playing a positive role in the economy of the UK.
The President hoped that the relations between the two countries would be strengthened further through the visit.
Secretaries concerned to the President Office were present.
