Yet another ‘drug trader’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’
Mymensingh: A so-called drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Hobirbari Union of Bhaluka upazila on early Wednesday.
The deceased Jalal was accused in more than six cases including murder and drug, said Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of district DB police.
The police officer said being informed that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area around 2:15 am for trading drugs, a team of detective conducted the drive at Khandokarpara area of Hobirbari Union.
Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders hurled brick chips on them and later opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight.
Later the law enforcers caught bullet-hit Jalal from the area. The injured was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered 200 Yaba tablets and four bullet shells from the spot, the OC added.
Two policemen were also injured during the ‘gunfight’, the OC said.
With the latest, at least 123 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ with members of law enforcement agencies while 37 bodies of suspected drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since 15 May.
