8 Jamaat men sent to jail over Noor’s motorcade attack

Nilphamari: A Nilphamari court on Sunday sent eight activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to jail in a case for killing five Awami League (AL) activists following an attack on the motorcade of Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in 2013, reports UNB.
Judge Mohammad Samiul Islam of the district court issued the order rejecting their bail prayers in a case filed in this connection.
Khairul Anam, secretary of district unit Jamaat, and Abdul Malek, secretary of Nilphamari Sadar unit Jamaat, were among the eight accused, who appeared before the court seeking bail in the case.
Earlier on 14 December, 2013, the Jamaat members allegedly carried out an attack on the motorcade of Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor at Ramganj Bazar in Sadar upazila, leading to the death of two AL activists and injuring others
A series of clashes took place following the attack, leading to the death of three more people, including two AL activists.
The Sadar police officer-in-charge Babul Akhter, filed the case against 1,500 unidentified people, including leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, in connection with the murders.
