Yet another case filed against Mahfuz Anam
Barguna: A defamation case was filed against The Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam in Barguna on Sunday for publishing ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports about Awami League president Sheikh Hasina during the 2007-2008 military-backed caretaker regime, reports UNB.
Earlier on Sunday, ten cases, including a sedition case, were filed against Mahfuz Anam in different districts in connection with the same reports.
Barguna correspondent of daily Dainik Jugantor, Mujibul Haque Kislu, filed the Tk 50crore defamation suit with the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, acting Judge Belal Hossain of the court fixed 22 February for the hearing.
According to the complaint, Mahfuz Anam published reports against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina based on information provided by DGFI without any scrutiny in 2007.
The editor of the leading English daily in a television talk-show confessed to running such stories in his newspaper.
