Mahfuz Anam faces another defamation lawsuit
Sunamganj: A defamation case was filed against The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam in Sunamganj on Monday for carrying ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports in his English daily about Awami League president Sheikh Hasina during the 2007-08 military-backed caretaker regime, reports
Earlier on Sunday, eleven cases, including a sedition case, were filed against Mahfuz Anam in different districts in connection with the same reports.
Syed Abul Kashem, former organizing secretary of London unit of Awami League, filed the Tk 100crore defamation lawsuit with the Sylhet Senior Judicial Magistrate’s court of Mohammad Shahidul Amin.
The complainant Syed Abul Kashem said Mahfuz Anam published reports against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina based on information provided by DGFI without any scrutiny in 2007 and he in a television talk-show confessed to running such stories in his newspaper.
