Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday fixed Wednesday to pass an order on a writ petition seeking directives for releasing Badal Farazi who served 10 years in India’s Tihar jail in a murder case.

The two-member HC bench of Justice J B M Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam fixed the date after hearing the writ petition filed on July 8, reports the UNB.

Barrister Humayun Kabir and Barrister Kawser stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Masud Hasan Chowdhury Porag for the state.

The court also asked the petitioners to submit necessary files again for the arguments.

Then, the court will pass its order after examining the files.

After serving in Indian jail for 10 years in a murder case, Bangladeshi youth Badal Farazi was brought back home on Friday (July 6) under a bilateral treaty on ‘Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners’.

Indian police were looking for one Badal Singh on charges of killing an old woman at Amar Colony in New Delhi on May 6, 2008. When Badal Farazi was entering India on a tourist visa on July 13, 2008, he was arrested for the similarity of his name with that of an accused in a murder case.

Later, he was sentenced to life term imprisonment in the case.

Badal’s life sentence was upheld by the Delhi High Court in May 2016, and his appeal against it was rejected by the Indian Supreme Court in December the same year.

Now, he has been kept in Keraniganj Central Jail.
