Dhaka: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking directives of the concerned authorities in keeping physicians, officials and staffs of government and private hospitals refrained from work abstention in any circumstances.

Apex court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed filed the writ petition with the High Court on Wednesday, reports the UNB.

Health Secretary and Director General of the Directorate General and Health Services (DGHS) have been made respondent to the petition.

The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam is scheduled to hear the petition, petitioner Dr Bashir Ahmed said.

The writ also sought issuance of a rule asking the government to explain why the work abstention programme by the doctors should not be declared illegal.

Dr Bashir Ahmed, in his petition, also sought for an order on necessary steps in installing 30-bed intensive care unit in each of the sadar hospitals of the country.

The physicians observe work abstention in a trifling matter, causing immense sufferings to the patients, said Dr Bashir adding that ‘Going on work abstention by keeping people as hostages are unlawful.’
