Gazipur: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said that the government had no role in denial of permission to Khaleda Zia’s British legal consultant Lord Carlile to enter India.

‘It was totally an internal matter of the Indian government. We had no role in it,’ said Quader while replying to a query from reporters after a visit to Dhaka-Tangail highway development works at Chandra here, reports the UNB.

Lord Carlile, a member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, is a barrister and one of the leading legal experts in the UK. BNP’s UK wing appointed him as a legal adviser to Khaleda’s legal defence team on 36 cases filed against her.

Carlile wanted to address a press conference in Delhi over Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment, as Bangladesh refused to give him visa to visit Dhaka in this regard. Later, India refused to give him permission to enter the country.

Carlile was denied entry into India on Wednesday for not having obtained the appropriate Indian visa.

Obaidul Quader, also Road, Transport and Bridges Minister, said the eid journey of home-bound people during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha will be more comfortable than than of Eid-ul-Fitr’s.

The Road Division has already started taking preparation.

Responding to another question, he said the upcoming elections to three city corporations will be held in a fair manner.

The AL candidates will follow all the rules, regulations and the election code of conduct during the polls.
