Sylhet: Police held a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Lalabazar area in South Surma on Friday night.

The detainee was Shamsul Islam, 45, Jamaat Baraikandi union unit, son of late Abdur Rakib of Lauai Parbatpur of the same upazila.

Police said on secret information, a team of South Surma police camp conducted a drive in the area and held Samsul at about 8:00pm.

The detainee was wanted in several cases including for torching vehicles during hartal-blockade, police said.
