AL to reshape villages if voted to power: Sheikh Hasina
Pabna: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Awami League government will ensure civic amenities and improved lifestyle for the people of every village in the country if her party is voted to power again.
‘There’ll be polls in December next. If you cast vote for Boat and Awami League can return to power, we’ll make sure that the each community of every village will get urban facilities and can lead a decent life. We’ll turn every village into a township,’ she told a public rally at Pabna Police Lines Ground here, reports the UNB.
The Prime Minister said her government wants to build Bangladesh as a poverty, militancy and drug-free country.
Noting that the terrorism, militancy and drug destroy a family, she urged people to help the government to successfully carry on the drives against terrorism, militancy and drug.
Hasina suggested the guardians to keep watch where their children go and what they do.
She urged all, including parents, freedom fighters, teachers, imams (clerics) of mosques, leaders of other religions to work in a united way to contain these social diseases.
Sheikh Hasina, also the President of Awami League, said AL wants the welfare and development of people. ‘Awami League always works for the wellbeing of people. There’s no need to seek anything from us. We know how a country can be developed and we also continue to work in such a way.’
‘Since you voted boat to power, we got the chance to work for them. If you cast vote for boat, we’ll be able to return to power and get chance to serve you again,’ she said.
Mentioning that the BNP-Jamaat clique had unleashed violence and arson attacks in 2013 and 2014, the Prime Minister said, ‘They only know how to destroy, but can’t give anything to the country.’
The Prime Minister said the country saw massive development as people gave the mandate in favour of the boat in the last two national elections.
Talking about different safety net programmes, she said the government provides allowances to some 40 lakh widows, 14 lakh women abandoned by their husbands, 40 lakh elderly people and 10 lakh physically-challenged people, as well as stipend to 80,000 physically-challenged students across the country.
She said the government reaches stipend money to mothers of 1.40 crore students of primary schools through mobile phones.
About various different development activities of her government, Sheikh Hasina said the government is setting up 100 economic zones in the country for the development of the industrial sector and creation of employments.
She said the government continues to build roads, schools and bridges massively across the country.
If voted to power, the Prime Minister said, her government will enhance the navigability of the country’s rivers by dredging these and expand the railway connectivity to the entire Bangladesh in the future.
Arranged by Pabna district Awami League, the rally was presided over by its President and Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif.
Three AL Presidium members Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Dr Abdur Razzaque, and AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated 31 development projects and unveiled the foundation stones of 18 developmental works from the venue.
