Dhaka: The High Court on Monday asked the authorities concerned to submit a supplementary paper book of the appeal petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust Case.
An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing the petition for the 3rd consecutive day, and adjourned the hearing for Tuesday morning.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said Khaleda’s counsels filed the petition before the court saying documents on eight subjects are not available at the paper book and the HC asked for preparing a supplementary paper book.
Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, M Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Kaiser Kamal and Aminul Islam were present during the hearing while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Additional Attorney General Murad Reza placed their arguments on behalf of the state.
The hearing on the review petition field against the lower court order sentencing BNP chairperson Khaleda to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case started on July 12 as per the order of the Supreme Court.
On February 8, the Dhaka Special Court-5 convicted the former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
She was then sent to old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.
